Strategies and tips for locating resources for your research projects.

Finding Sources for Your Research Assignment

Professors Findling & Vogt require you to have:

  • Minimum 10 pages (typed, double-spaced, standard font and margins)
  • Minimum 8 sources
    • journal articles and books located using library resources are ideal
    • this guide is designed to help you locate high quality resources to use for your paper
  • Course-assigned materials may be used with proper citation, but do not count towards the minimum
  • Online or electronic sources will be viewed skeptically by default; however, peer-reviewed publications from scholarly online outlets may be acceptable (if in doubt, ask)
  • Any standard citation style is acceptable (e.g., MLA, Turabian, APA), but please be consistent in following the conventions of the style you choose

It's always wise to collect more than what you think you will need. This is especially true if you have to rely on interlibrary loan (borrowing from other libraries) and don't have the book or full text article to consult immediately.

The information on this guide will help you to discover different types of resources.  Please ask your instructor or one of our librarians for help if you have difficulty using the sources or you just don't know what else to try!  We'd be very happy to work with you to discover the sources you need!
