NSP: Neuroplasticity

Strategies & tips for locating resources for your research projects.

Finding Sources for Your Research Assignment

Professors Fox and Smith require you to write:

  • a term essay integrating the themes of the course and a presentation
    • Your task is to investigate in depth some topic of interest that is relevant to neuroplasticity, habit, and selfhood. The paper can begin from a question, a problem, or a puzzle, but it needs a specific thesis that can serve as a springboard into explanation, critical analysis, and your own original thinking. The required method will be interdisciplinary, able to straddle the division between natural and humanistic sciences by drawing on figures and concepts from Philosophy and Psychology.
  • required elements
    • minimum of 12 pages
    • consistent citation format (i.e. APA, Chicago, MLA)
    • at least 5 outside references, which should include:
      • no more than 2 books or monographs
      • at least 2 refereed articles in scholarly journals

It's always wise to collect more than what you think you will need. This is especially true if you have to rely on interlibrary loan (borrowing from other libraries) and don't have the book or full text article to consult immediately.

The information on this guide will help you to discover different types of resources.  Please ask your instructor or one of our librarians for help if you have difficulty using the sources or you just don't know what else to try!  We'd be very happy to work with you to discover the sources you need!
