Juvenile Literature at Dugan Library

The library provides a variety of children's and young adult picture books, chapter books and award winning literature for Education students. Located on the 2nd floor of the library is a special collection where you will find juvenile literature as well as curriculum for teachers at all levels. The collection is in a room located on the west side of the building. Curriculum books will have "CUR" as part of the call number, either at the beginning or the end. Juvenile books will have "JUV' as part of the call number, either at the beginning or the end.

Award winning books, such as Newbery, Caldecott and William Allen White award winners are shelved separately from the general juvenile literature. All juvenile literature is currently located along the walls of the room. They are shelved according to Library of Congress classification.

William Allen White Books

The William Allen White Children's Book Awards was founded in 1952 to honor the memory of one of the state's most distinguished citizens by encouraging the boys and girls of Kansas to read and enjoy good books. The nominees are divided into two categories: books for grades 3-5 and books for grades 6-8. Winners are selected by children in the two different grade categories. This is the oldest state-wide children's choice book award in the United States. An annual celebration and award presentation is hosted at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Other Award Winning Books

There are many awards given for children's and young adult literature. These are just a few examples.
